Old Vic to Choose Spacey as Artistic Chief
- Hollywood star set for plumb job in his 'favourite theatre.'

KEVIN SPACEY is to take charge of the Old Vic theatre, according to insiders in theatreland.

The Hollywood actor is set to confirm his appointment as artistic director of the Old Vic at a press conference tomorrow. Spacey has been on the board of trustees of the theatre for four years with a special role as a fundraiser.

"It continues to be the favourite theatre I've probably ever played in," Spacey said.

The theatre still needs around UKP10 million to ensure its survival. It is thought Spacey's appointment will help boost its profile and fundraising capabilities.

At present there is not an artistic director at the Old Vic, but previous incumbents include Jonathan Miller and Sir Peter Hall.
