Battersea Arts On The Up
- Local centre goes regional

BATTERSEA ARTS Centre is to launch its first ever tour. This Way Up will offer London-based artists the opportunity to reach regional theatres at the same time as BAC expand their Opera festival into two months.

The south London venue's reputation has flourished with the launching of Jerry Springer - The Opera. In the wake of the show's successful transfer to the National Theatre, BAC has announced that its opera season, Genetically Modified Music Theatre, will run first from 8 to 31 May and then again from 29 August to 13 September.

Meanwhile BAC is also touring four companies whose work it has developed for regional venues. Filter, Gecko, Patter and Sound & Fury will take a production each to five regional venues, including Warwick Arts Centre. The Arts Council's decision to back the tour following recent restructuring should pacify those concerned that funding for London venues will suffer.
