Jerry Lewis in Backstage Collapse
- Veteran Comedian now in London hospital

LEGENDARY American comedian Jerry Lewis collapsed backstage at the London Palladium last night, minutes before he was due to appear at an event for drugs charity Turning Point.

"I saw him collapse backstage out of the corner of my eye," said Steven Alan Green, the event organiser. "He was watching the screen clips of an earlier show of his behind the stage when he just sat back. I hope it's nothing too serious."

Lewis was rushed by ambulance to a nearby hospital. The comic, now aged 76, appeared at the Palladium 50 years ago with former sparring partner Dean Martin. He has suffered from a series of health misfortunes over the years, most recently being diagnosed with spiral meningitis. In 1982 doctors pronounced Lewis clinically dead after a heart attack.
