London Eye to Get British Rival
- Birmingham aims for higher version of the big wheel

BRITAIN'S second city, Birmingham, plans to sate its centuries old jealousy of the capital by building a big wheel some ten metres higher than the London Eye.

"This will be a fantastic landmark for the city," said Richard Pawley a midlands businessman in charge of the project. "It should reinforce Birmingham's new tourist strategy."

Birmingham city centre has recently had something of a facelift with pedestrianised streets and some nice fountains added to the notorious Bull Ring, an architectural eyesore containing shops.

Nevertheless, some would doubt the pulling power of a big wheel that afforded views to these marvels while users of the London original get to see the winding glory of the Thames, Buckingham Palace, St. Paul's and countless other world famous landmarks.
