London to Host Miss World
- Ally Pally the venue in wake of Nigerian riots

THE MISS WORLD event will now go ahead in London on December 7, after all 92 competitors were flown into Britain from strife-torn Nigeria yesterday.

At least 200 people were killed in riots in the Muslim north of the country following a newspaper article which claimed the Prophet Mohammed would have taken one of the contestants as a wife had he been alive today.

In the majority of Nigeria, the Miss World pageant had been welcomed as a boost to the country's international standing. Miss Wales Michelle Bush spoke for many of her rivals when she praised Nigerians for their hospitality. "I have never been so moved in all my life by the kindness of the Nigerians," Bush said.

The venue chosen for the event is Alexandra Palace in north London, though organisers have come under pressure to call off the whole shebang in respect for the dead.
