Mime Time Back Again
- Festival licks into shape

THE LONDON INTERNATIONAL Mime Festival has announced its forthcoming festival. The 2003 festival runs January 10 to January 26 and features mime, circus, and puppetry companies from around the world.

Companies programmed include French company Nouvelles Folies and UK experimentalists Throat, both fresh from their success at the Edinburgh fringe. Venues range from Battersea Arts Centre to the Barbican, both of which in fact promote visual theatre year round. Since the Royal Shakespeare Company left, the Barbican's six month Bite season of international theatre and dance has become annual, whilst the BAC regularly showcases 'scratch' performances of physical theatre.

Other venues opening their doors to mime during the festival include the text-based Soho theatre and the dance-promoting Place. The sheer variety of stage stuff being showcased by seeming purists suggests theatreland is ready to take a few more risks.
