| Government Websites Slammed as 'Incomprehensible'
- Convoluted jargon is appalling, says report THE 10 DOWNING STREET website is a "mess" and a UKP5 billion programme to put all government business on line by 2005 is "not achievable." So say internet analyst group Porter Research, who have conducted a survey of hundreds of official sites. Porter found the government web presence to be "full of unexplained jargon, convoluted and incomprehensible." Politicians, Porter surmise, "probably rarely look at their websites, let alone try to use them. If they did they would be appalled at the way visitors are treated." The report's authors recommend a huge programme of redesign and amendment, a wish that is unlikely to be granted as government officials say there has been "a major positive shift" in the performance of websites. |
