Queen Musical Under Pressure
- We Will Rock You cancels matinees

WE WILL ROCK YOU has cancelled all Friday 5.00pm matinees. Following an ill-reviewed premiere last week at the Dominion theatre, the musical collaboration between Queen and Ben Elton has cut back to a seven-performances-a week schedule.

We Will Rock You's West End adventure has certainly been rocky. After six years in development and an investment of UKP7.5 million, the original April 24 premiere was cancelled to increase the company's rehearsal time. Critics loathed Elton's futuristic book which features a homage to real music over money making computer tunes, a theme that jars with the sheer commercialism of the production.

Elton's poor excuse for a 31 strong medley of Queen songs is not the only show to suffer. West End producers worried that songs like We Will Rock You, Bohemian Rhapsody and Radio Gaga cannot get an audience will notice the premature closure of Richard Cameron's The Gee Club after only six weeks at the Duchess theatre.
