| The Powerbook Storms On Stage
- Jeanette Winterson gets dramatic THE POWERBOOK has been adapted into a ninety minute stage drama by Deborah Warner and Fiona Shaw. The dramatisation of Jeanette Winterson's raunchy novel christens the newly adapted Lyttleton theatre space at the National theatre. Shaw comes fresh from her role as Harry's aunt in the Harry Potter movies to star opposite Saffron Burrows. The stage 'spice girl' best known for her roles in Miss Julie and Electra plays Shaw's love interest, whilst Shaw and Warners' longstanding romance continues off stage. However, it is email rather than love which lies at the heart of this adventure as the Powerbook is electronic. Following in the footsteps of the successful dramatisation of Angela Carter's novel The Magic Toyshop, The Powerbook blurs the lines between fiction and drama. Trevor Nunn has transformed the theatre into a cyber space, presenting the radically reworked Lyttleton in a suitably modern light. |
