- Top US shows shift venues THE VAGINA MONOLOGUES returns to the Arts theatre from June 25. The show moves back from the New Ambassadors Theatre, where Kenneth Lonergan's Lobby Hero is soon to move from the Donmar. Mean time Lobby Hero ousts Jesus Jumped the A Train from the New Ambassadors. These two hits of the Donmar's American imports season were both scripted by US citizens before coming to London for fame. Likewise Eve Ensler's The Vagina Monologues started off off-Broadway before coming to London's King's Head and transferring to the West End. The only current hit to buck that trend is The Play What I Wrote. This home grown hit transfers to Broadway 2003, but only after reopening at the Wyndham's theatre come October 30. The tribute to the Morecambe and Wise comedy duo has more in common with the Vagina Monologues than at first appears, since both feature a changing cast of celebrity guests. Like Lobby Hero and Jesus Jumped the A Train, The Play What I Wrote and the Vagina Monologues are new plays attracting young audiences. |
