Madonna Life Imitates Art
- Previews cancelled, ticket prices soar for Queen of Pop's new play

MADONNA's preview performances in her West End debut have been cancelled. She will no longer be performing May 9th, 10th or 11th in David Williamson's Up For Grabs at the Wyndham's theatre.

Producers say refunds will be available. Alternatively, disappointed fans can see the material girl in select matinees. But the cancellation of previews follows hot on the heels of Madonna's refusal to perform in regular matinees and have caused ticket prices to soar beyond the budgets of ordinary punters. If the fate of the American smash hit The Producers is anything to go by, tickets prices could reach UKP400.

All of which seems pertinent to a comedy about the rising price of art. Madonna's role as an art dealer pitting her various customers against one another in a bid to raise prices looks like a case of life imitating art. Star crazed theatregoers with less cash to burn may have to content themselves with gazing at Denise Van Outen, back at the Adelphi for a limited run in the hit show Chicago.
