Strike Drama in Theatreland
- Union votes on action today in bid to improve pay

ON THE SURFACE London theatre is all about glamour, celebrity and even art, but underneath all that hundreds of people work behind the scenes to put the shows on stage.

For a long time, those workers have complained about poor pay and long hours but now, via the union Bectu, they are set to do something about it by voting to strike.

Union insiders expect today's vote on strike action to be carried with a large majority and, if negotiations with theatre managements fall through again, many of the West End's 40 theatres could be closed for business.
