London Tourism to Take Flight
- More planes means more visitors for beleaguered industry

LONDON is set to benefit from a surprise increase in air travel over recent weeks.

Since September 11, most news coming out of the air and travel industry has been of the doom and gloom variety, but now British Airways says that such is the take-off in demand for flights between the US and the UK that it is to re-introduce flights cancelled following last autumn's terrorist outrage.

Flights between London and New York are to be increased to six a day and between London and both Boston and Washington to three a day.

London hotels and related travel businesses should enjoy a knock-on effect from this upturn following a year of despair for many in the capital's tourist industry that involved the negative effects of the foot and mouth disease even before September 11.

Meanwhile, a travel survey conducted for American Express Corporate Travel also sounded an optimistic note, effectively predicting that there will a significant increase in demand throughout the rest of this year.
