Margaret and the Ambassador's Daughter
- Denials over book's claim that Princess had lesbian lover

FRIENDS of the late Princes margaret, who died last month, have acted to rubbish claims in a new book that the Queen's sister enjoyed a lesbian affair, as well as the occasional line of cocaine and toke of a joint.

"These claims are simply preposterous," Countess Alexander, a ontime Lady-in-Waiting to the Princess. "They are especially wicked so soon after her funeral."

The claims are made in an unauthorised biography written by Noel Botham, who was today standing by his version of events, though he said he had "not presented [the lesbian affair] in the way that the newspapers are presenting it," a reference to what Botahm considers his own efforts to put Margaret's lifestyle into the context of her times and social circle.

In the book, published today, Botham claims Margaret had a fling in 1949 with Sharman Douglas, the daughter of the US Ambassador to Britain.
