| Fiennes For the National
- The English Patient gets psycho-dramatic RALPH FIENNES performs in Christopher Hampton's latest play at the National theatre later this year. Taking the lead from the Donmar and the West End, the National looks keen to poach film stars for its productions. Fresh from the success of Private Lives, Howard Davies directs Fiennes. Hampton's new drama, The Talking Cure, should present little difficulty to the man who made his name as The English Patient. Like Anthony Minghella's award winning screenplay, the play considers how medicine informs our lives and loves of different cultures. The Talking Cure is however specifically concerned with the role of psychotherapy in the American workplace. Starring as the psychotherapist Carl Jung, Fiennes takes on a far meatier part than his last stage role as walk-on celebrity guest in The Play What I Wrote. |
