Getty Gives Millions to St. Paul's
- Restoration can go ahead after huge donation

ST. PAUL'S Cathedral is one of London's crowning glories, but in recent years there have been warnings from those who look after the magnificent church that the crown may be slipping.

Wear and tear had put St. Paul's under threat, but it has now been announced that billionaire Sir Paul Getty has agreed to stump up UKP5 million to help with much needed refurbishments.

Nearly three hundred years after it was built under the guidance of perhaps the greatest of London architects, Sir Christopher Wren, cracks in some of St. Paul's stone work had given cause for concern. Getty's gift, which is likely to be supplemented by others in the 300 anniversary restoration campaign, should keep St. Paul's at the top of the capital's list of attractions.
