Breath Of Life For West End
- Hare's new play comes to town

DAVID HARE'S new play opens in October at the Theatre Royal Haymarket. The Breath of Life stars Dame Maggie Smith and Dame Judi Dench and builds on Hare's success with his recent West End success, My Zinc Bed.

Hare's two-hander concerns a chance encounter between a retired curator and a popular novelist. Howard 'Private Lives' Davies directs Dench in her second Hare play to date. Dame Maggie hopes to follow in Dame Judy's footsteps as show stealer in Hare's earlier hit, Amy's View.

Though Smith has yet to stare in a Hare play she is no stranger to the West End. Last seen in Alan Bennett's Lady in the Van, Smith, like Dench, has over 100 theatre credits to her name. Hare's latest looks like a welcome break from the current trend for plays that glorify pop stars and TV actors.
