| Business Boost for Eurostar
- Cross-channel train service goes yet more up market EUROSTAR yesterday opened its new executive lounge at Waterloo Station and opened itself to fresh accusations of ignoring ordinary travellers. When the Channel Tunnel was being built back in the 1980s and 90s, much was made of the way it expand bring trans-continental travel, but that expansion has been a selective process, with Eurostar concentrating on servicing the whims of its richer passengers and pricing its seats accordingly. Thanks to the pricing policy, at least a third of passengers using Eurostar are now business travellers, a proportion which helps the company justify its massive outlay on the new lounge which includes office equipment and computer links. More bias towards the business sector is to follow, with a similar lounge being built at the Paris end of the cross-Channel link. |
