| Big Ben Was September 11 Target, Claims New Book
- Al-Qaeda 'planned to blow Houses of Parliament away' BIG BEN could have gone the same way as the World Trade Centre if al-Qaeda terrorists had had their way, according to a new book on the shadowy organisation. Al-Qaeda operative Afroz Mohammed is said to have admitted to the plan while being questioned by Indian security officials, a plan that involved the same kind of flying school backdrop familiar from the attacks in the US. "A team assembled at Heathrow airport on 9/11 to conduct an airborne suicide attack on the Houses of Parliament," said Rohan Gunaratna, author of Inside al-Qaeda. Mohammed is still held in India but has now retracted the confession on which Gunaratna's claims are based. |
