Beckham Takes Place on Trafalgar Square
- Model of England captain goes alongside Nelson and his column

VISITORS to Trafalgar Square will see England's current hero alongside 19th century war hero Admiral Lord Nelson after staff from Madame Tussaud's placed the footballer's wax-likeness on the spare plinth of central London's most famous open space.

"It's all a bit of fun really," said a Tussaud's spokesperson. "We're simply going with the feeling of the country at the moment and paying tribute to a national hero. Beckham's model is so popular and we thought he would be the perfect answer to filling the empty plinth, even if for only a short time. We hope it won't cause any trouble."

The Beckham waxwork does not actually have permission from Westminster Council for its guest appearance, but Tussaud's are not the only ones to be taking liberties with the England captain. In Japan yesterday, screaming school girls begged Beckham to marry them. "I'm afraid I'm married already," Mr Posh Spice said.
