Cannabis Rules Tightened in Lambeth
- Smoke dope in public and you face arrest

LAMBETH won't be quite the dope-smokers paradise many believe it has become from now on, after police said they would start to arrest people using cannabis in public.

The London Borough of Lambeth, which covers parts of south London including Brixton, Clapham and Vauxhall, has been used to pilot a softer line on policing cannabis over the last year, but complaints from some Brixton residents have caused senior officers to re-think their approach.

It still won't be seen as a serious crime to merely carry cannabis for personal use, but to smoke it openly in public, or when driving, or if you are under 17, will now mean arrest.

"The aim of this campaign is to clearly explain to everyone in Lambeth that cannabis is illegal and will remain illegal," said senior Lambeth police officer Brian Moore.
