|Hare On Stage in Middle-East Play
- Via Dolorosa is back again
SIR DAVID HARE returns to the West End with his one man show, Via Dolorosa. His acting debut first graced the Royal Court four years ago before transferring to Broadway. Hare's homage to the promised land and Palestinian conflict reopens at the Duchess theatre tomorrow.
Via Dolorosa was inspired by the three week visit of 50-year-old Hare to the state of 50-year-old Israel back in 1997. Never one to shy away from a challenge, Hare takes on the roles of 33 cameo parts to depict both Jewish settlers in the West Bank and Palestinian politicians in Gaza.
Stephen 'Billy Eliot' Daldry directs Hare in the only show he has dared to perform himself. The show dissects the problems of Israel and Palestine but also questions the West's response, comprising interviews with politicians and artists from the Middle East. The West End looks set for a bout of political theatre.
