Globes Joy for Broadbent
- Iris star a winner but Moulin Rouge and A Beautiful Mind make the running at Oscar taster

IRIS star Jim Broadbent was the only British on-screen winner at yesterday's Golden Globes award ceremony, traditionally seen as a key indicator for the Oscars.

Broadbent won a gong as Best Supporting Actor for his role as the husband of novelist Iris Murdoch, a film which opened to critical acclaim in London last Friday.

Elsewhere, it appears that the films are likely to do battle in the March Oscar shindig, those being Moulin Rouge and A Beautiful Mind. Nicole Kidman picked up a prize for her role in the former, while the latter won Best Film and gave Russell Crowe the Best Actor award for his portrayal of Nobel-prize winning economist John Nash, a schizophrenia sufferer.
