Gosford Park Gets Another Award Boost
- Golden Globes, Baftas, and now Writers' Guild shower Altman with praise

FRESH from being nominated for nine Baftas, Gosford Park is now in line for a tilt at a Writers' Guild of America for Best Screenplay.

Robert Altman's film, which opened in London a week ago, is an imaginative re-working of a country house murder mystery, plus a healthy dollop of class warfare.

It is seen as the veteran director's best movie for years and such has been its success in the recent round of award ceremonies and nominations that it is a serious contender to strike gold at the Oscars.

Like the Baftas and Golden Globes, at which Altman won Best Director, the Writers' Guild awards are seen as an indicator for the Oscars and, with its star packed cast largely made up of British acting stalwarts, the film's chances of picking up a number of little statues come March 24 are strong.

Before the big one, the Baftas take place on February 28 and the Writers' Guild ceremony on March 2.
