- Zero-tolerance scheme planned against homeless tipplers
CENTRAL London authorities are to push ahead with plans or a zero-tolerance policy on street drinking.
"We are considering a no-drinking zone," said a spokesperson for Westminster Council. Initially, the zone will be around Victoria Station but may be be extended across most of central London.
In a co-ordinated move, the council is also to encourage the police to clamp down on beggars. Both moves aim to clear the streets of homeless people, a number of whom have serious drink problems.
As well the zero-tolerance stick, Westminster may offer a carrot in the form of pub especially for the homeless.
