|Stadium the Centrepiece of New Dome Plan|
- UKP4 billion plan for entertainment venue, houses and shops
THE MILLENIUM DOME could finally have its future secured after new UKP4 billion development plans were submitted to Greenwich Council.
The latest scheme centres around the building of a 25,000 capacity events arena inside the Dome, planned to hold music concerts and sports events. The existing Dome roof would act as a kind of canopy over the new stadium and would help reduce noise levels reaching nearby residents.
The numbers of those residents is envisaged to be vastly increased in the scheme for Greenwich, thought to have the support of the council, as 10,000 new homes are planned to be built in the vicinity of the Dome. Schools and shops also form part of the overall plan.
Previous plans for the Dome include those for a business park, a theme park, and an ambitious idea to turn the thing into the home ground for Charlton Athletic Football Club.
