|Cannes to Welcome British Party People|
- Winterbottom, Loach and Leigh movies all set for major festival
BRITISH films may have failed to capture the big awards at the Oscars, but hopes are high that the most recent UK movies will do well at the Cannes Film Festival, which opens next month.
Prominent among expected British films to be in competition at Europe's premiere film festival are Michael Winterbottom's 24 Hour Party People, Ken Loach's Sweet Sixteen, Mike Leigh's All or Nothing and Canadian director David Cronenberg Spider, which counts as British due to its source of funding and cast.
Woody Allen will open the festival on May 15th with his new film Hollywood Ending.
