Winslet Pulls Out of Enigma Premiere
- Estranged actress blames recent personal events for her no-show

PRODUCER Mick Jagger, stars Saffron Burrows and Dougray Scott all turned out for the premiere of World War Two espionage drama Enigma - but co-star Kate Winslet was conspicuous by her absence.

Winslet pulled out of the royal premiere - attended by Prince Charles - only hours before it was due to be shown, after announcing she wanted time away from the media. The event would have marked her first public appearance since her split with husband Jim Threapleton.

"I'm very sorry not to be there to celebrate the premiere of Enigma of which I'm very proud and also to pay my respects to those lives lost in the recent tragedy in New York," she said, adding: "In light of recent personal events, I feel that a short time out of the spotlight would be beneficial."

Jagger's daughter Elizabeth and her friend Leah Wood, daughter of Rolling Stones guitarist Ronnie Wood, both of who make brief appearances in the film, also attended the premiere.

Based on the best-selling novel by Robert Harris, Enigma follows the story of war-time code-breakers at Bletchley Park in Buckinghamshire. The film hits London screens this Friday.
