Overhaul for West End Security
- Leicester Square gets CCTV as terrorism dominates authorities' thinking

LONDON authorities are wasting no time in beefing up security following the suicide attacks on New York and Washington DC.

Because of Britain's close relationship with the US, fears have grown that the UK, and London as its capital, will be next in line for terrorist attack.

Already, moves towards the introduction of identity cards have begun and now the West End is to get a UKP1.5 million closed circuit TV system. "Leicester Square is a focus point of the West End. We are dedicated to overhauling the security of the square," said Westminster Council leader Simon Milton.

Meanwhile, the Metropolitan Police have helped stoke up the understandable anxiety of Londoners by issuing warnings of chemical and biological warfare. Sales of gas masks have risen dramatically as a result.
