- PM builds 'international support' for response to terrorism
TONY BLAIR is to visit New York this Thursday as part of the on-going international discussions on what actions need to be taken in the aftermath of last week's terrorist outrages in New York and Washington DC.
A spokesperson for the Prime Minister said: "Mr Blair welcomes the fact that the American administration is consulting widely and building a coalition of international support for any response to last week's atrocities," a Downing Street spokeswoman said.
Blair is seen as a pivotal figure in the effort to have any US military action supported the wider world. He has talked at length to most European leaders and has been in frequent contact with US President George Bush, who he is to meet as part of the New York visit. Blair will also meet members of the New York emergency services and also lay a wreath of condolence to the estimated several hundred British nationals who died in the World Trade Centre attack, at a special memorial site.
