|Pinter Goes On Line
- Political playwright launches his own website
HAROLD PINTER has launched a new website dedicated to his life and works. With few flashy gimmicks but plenty of reliable information, the site boasts an archive and a discussion forum, as well as extensive coverage of the award-winning artist's plays, poetry and politics.
"There are no hard distinctions between what is real and what is unreal, nor between what is true and what is false," said Pinter in his recent web launch at the British Library, quoting from a speech he made in 1958 which he said had particular relevance for web users. The multi-talented writer, director, poet and activist explained that his website aims to present the facts of his career and entertain fellow surfers of the internet.
But Pinter has not neglected his other commitments in the course of going on line. His play, The Homecoming, replaces Nixon's Nixon at The Comedy theatre from Sept 17, and Pinter joins a select group of other artists convening at the World Leaders Festival in October in Toronto before directing another of his works, No Man's Land, for the Royal National Theatre from December. "For more information, check out www.haroldpinter.org," said the sprightly 70 year-old.
