|'Loser' Tube Boss to Go Part-Time|
- Livingstone angry as Smith juggles two jobs
PROBLEMS with the Tube are so minor that its chief executive will only need to work part time. That sounds like a sentence from some impossible, gilded future, but will in fact become reality in the next two weeks.
London Underground managing director Derek Smith, the man who has helped the government push through Tube privatisation, is to work on his high profile job for only three days a week, after deciding to take another job at the same time.
London Mayor Ken Livingstone, who has had run-ins with Smith over privatisation, is not amused. "This loser is going to do it part-time," Livingstone said. "People will be outraged."
It was known that Smith would leave his post at the Tube this year to become chief executive of Hammersmith Hospitals Trust, but few realised Smith would stay on at the Underground even after taking up his new challenge.
