Raindance Film Festival Gets Underway
- London cinemas host a selection of independent films from around the world

THE LONDON film festival may be only weeks away but cinema-goers can investigate new independent films from today with the launch of the 9th Raindance Film Festival.

Raindance, dedicated to fostering and promoting independent film in the UK and around the world, runs from Wednesday October 17 until next Friday October 26, with screenings taking place at the Metro Cinema in central London and the Genesis Cinema in Mile End.

The festival kicks off with US indie flick Ghostworld starring Thora Birch and Steve Buscemi, screening tonight at 7.00pm at the Metro. Homegrown talent is on the agenda this Friday with Udyan Prasad's Gabriel and Me, at the same time and venue.

With the meteoric rise of Bollywood films in London cinemas, there's also a Raindance East section which is dedicated to showcasing films by British Asian directors.
