RSC Hit by New Strike Threat
- Back-stage staff protest against pay cuts and move from Barbican

DISGRUNTLED staff at the Royal Shakespeare Company have threatened another strike, following a similar walk-out in September. Back-stage workers object to pay cuts and to Adrian Noble's plans to decamp from the company's Barbican base.

Among the casualties of the proposed December strike will be the RSC's Christmas shows. Though Alice in Wonderland continues to play to full houses, the critically acclaimed production of Hamlet due to transfer from Stratford will have to be axed.

This Christmas it is smaller companies who look set to assert a stronger West End presthe royal shakespeare company, ence. The Donmar's in-house production of Boston Marriage goes to the New Ambassadors at the end of the month, while John Caird's production of Humble Boy transfers to the West End as his fringe season of new writing kicks off next week.
