Big Screen Welcome to Afghanistan
- Michael Winterbottom to make film on conflict in the Middle East

BRITISH director Michael Winterbottom is to make a film about the conflict in Afghanistan.

Winterbottom, best known for his war film Welcome to Sarajevo, will travel to Pakistan in order to research the as yet untitled film. The plot will centre on two brothers who leave a refugee camp on the Afghan-Pakistan border and attempt to reach London.

"It's essentially about one brother who makes it and another who doesn't," producer Andrew Eaton said. "We've been working on it a while. They were either going to be Chinese or Afghan but recent events decided that."

Winterbottom's previous films include psychological thriller Butterfly Kiss, working-class drama Wonderland and acclaimed romantic western The Claim.
