Colin Firth Shows His Worth
- Bridget Jones's Diary star takes on Hamlet

COLIN FIRTH has been cast as Hamlet in The Riverside Studios' January 2002 production of Shakespeare's great tragedy. Firth is to follow his performance in Bridget Jones's Diary by taking to the stage.

The British actor is most famous for his performance as Darcy in the BBC's adaptation of Pride and Prejudice, in which he played the brooding character upon which Helen Fielding modelled the Darcy of her Bridget Jones novel. He made his West End debut in the original staging of Another Country.

The lead in Hamlet amounts to a trip down memory lane for Firth, who was first discovered by theatre producers playing that very part in his final drama school production. For the Riverside Studios, however, so well known a play signifies a departure from their radical programming of innovators like Theatre de Complicite, Shunt and Cheek by Jowl.
