|Hollywood Goes Off The Rails For Ronnie
- Directors battle it out for film rights on the return of the train robber
FILM-MAKERS have steamed into action over the rights to make a film about the dramatic return of Great Train Robber, Ronnie Biggs.
No sooner had the criminal's crippled legs landed on British soil than movie moguls are hankering to hear his story. British TV networks are also rumoured to be proposing documentaries and films about Biggs.
Directors are no doubt aware that such a film is sure to get box-office bells ringing - especially if a screen legend such as Kirk Douglas landed the role - and could even out-do Phil Collins's train- robbery film Buster, which was nominated for an Oscar in 1988.
"This could be the script of the year. It's a great story and studios are queuing up to tell it," a Hollywood source said last night.
