Barbican Brings Bite Back
- Festival of international theatre returns

THE BARBICAN International Theatre Event begins its six month run of 19 productions today. This is the fourth time the Royal Shakespeare Company's London stage has played host to the drama, dance and music event.

Peter Hall's ten-hour production of Tantalus opens the season on the main stage, complemented by a production of The Odyssey in The Pit. Other events include a new version of Swan Lake, a Myths and Monsters family weekend, and discussions with director Sir Peter Hall, playwright Timberlake Wertenbaker and critic Michael Billington.

Mean time Julie 'The Lion King' Taymor provides puppets and costumes for The King Stag, and Japan's Ninagawa Company presents two Noh plays. The festival has expanded this year to include a Greek and Swedish film season, and has the support of 60, 000 patrons.
