New Deal for Ally McBeal
- Calista Flockhart takes to the West End

THE PHILADELPHIA STORY starring Calista Flockhart of Ally McBeal fame opens June 7 at the Shaftesbury Theatre. The sixteen person cast looks likely to include Flockhart's co-star, Robert Downey Junior, despite the latter facing US drugs charges.

For all her TV commitments McBeal is no stranger to the stage. Her US appearances in Neil LaBute's Bash and Eve Ensler's The Vagina Monologues should prepare her for the role Katherine Hepburn made famous when Philip Barry's play premiered on Broadway in 1939.

Method acting is out of the question, however. Flockhart's life experiences differ vastly from those of Tracey Lord, the stuck up lead character of The Philadelphia Story whose husband's irresponsibility prompts her to remarry the man of her father's choice until her ex-husband reveals her father's infidelity and woos her back. Having recently adopted a baby out of wedlock, Flockhart will need to set her personal life aside.
