| London Up for Rubbish Award - Centre of town out to clean up refuse gongs IT'S not an accolade most visitors would truthfully decorate London with, but rubbish experts believe the centre of town is among the cleanest parts of Britain. The British Cleaning Council has shortlisted both Westminster, which covers the West End, and the City of London municipal authorities for their efforts to trash the trash. "It's gratifying to have the efforts that we make recognised by a national organisation.," said Judith Warner, rubbish big cheese with Westminster Council. Warner's counterpart at the City of London, Peter Hardwick, was also chuffed to be nominated. "We are delighted," he said. Other towns on the shortlist include Manchester, Hull and Plymouth. The overall winner is due to be revealed on Wednesday. |
