Royal Welcome For Judi Dench
- Esteemed drama queen makes a comeback

THEATRICAL MATRIARCH Dame Judi Dench returns to the West End this October after a two year break. She stars in the Haymarket Theatre Royal's revival of Edna Ferber and George S. Kaufman's The Royal Family.

Pulitzer prize-winning Edna Ferber is most famous for the Broadway hit Showboat. She also penned the novel Giant, which was adapted in 1956 into a film in which James Dean made his last appearance. Kaufmann, on the other hand, was best known for Merrily We Roll Along, a musical that hit Broadway in 1981 and was recently revived at the Donmar Theatre.

Kaufman and Ferber's The Royal Family concerns the mother of a well-to-do theatrical dynasty. Having won a Tony for her performance as an ageing actress in Sir David Hare's Amy's View two years ago, Dame Dench should prove no stranger to simply playing herself.
