Queen Of Pop Takes Up Queen's English
- But Madonna's posh husband Guy pretends he is a cockney

MADONNA is so obsessed with being British that she is to take elocution lessons to help her speak proper.

At a time when the whole concept of Britishness is being challenged, newly wed Maddy is going out of her way to align herself with dear old Blighty. The Queen of Pop, who married upper crust English chap Guy Ritchie last December, plumped for trendy Notting Hill as her new home rather than going back to the States.

Now it seems that Mads is being tutored to speak the Queen's English. Rumour has it that Madonna wants to play British roles in films but might find it hard to get a role in one of her husband's efforts. While Madonna is being taught to mind her p's and q's, Ritchie is making every effort to play down his own posh tones. The director of Snatch, who was born in Surrey and attended public school, is one of the more prominent members of the Mockney school of language and drama who like to adopt the argot of the London working class.
