- London chart toppers go their separate ways
SPECULATION that All Saints are to split finally ended last night after it was revealed sisters Natalie and Nicole Appleton have signed their own record deal.
Rumours were rife that the Appleton sisters had walked out, leaving a question mark over the band's future. Now it transpires that the sisters, regarded by bandleader Melanie Blatt and songwriter Shaznay Lewis as talentless, have struck a deal as a duo with major label Warner Brothers.
But others point the finger at Melanie Blatt, who wanted to spend more time with her one-year old daughter Lilyella, and boyfriend ex-Jamiroquai bassist Stuart Zender. The singer's reluctance to leave her child for long periods has been regarded as the reason the band pulled out of promotional tours of Japan and Australia at the tail end of last year.
In a recent interview Mel stated: "F**k All Saints, I just want us to be happy as individuals. I'm not sure it's possible to carry on doing both for much longer. When you become a mother your child becomes the most important thing in your life."
All Saints new single All Hooked Up will be released next Monday, 15 January.
