Pinewood and Shepperton Make the Grade
- Scott brothers link up with former TV chief

FORMER TV boss Michael Grade is to head the merged company that is to run London's and Europe's biggest film studios.

Grade made his name as boss of innovative TV company Channel 4 but has since concentrated his efforts on the big screen where he is head of Pinewood and will now take charge of both studios.

"The two studios have been competing for years against each other. In an increasingly global market, this makes no sense," Grade said "Together, we can enhance Britain's share of the international movie making business."

Shepperton owners, film directors Ridley and Tony Scott, get a seat on the new board as part of the deal. "Tony and I are committed to the growth and continued success of these historic studios," Ridley, who directed Gladiator, said

Together, the two studios will have as many stages as their main competitors in Hollywood.
