Dome Given Sporting Chance
- 20,000 stadium could be announced this week

THE FUTURE of the Dome is likely to be sealed this week with the government now reckoned to favour a proposal to turn the Greenwich big tent into a sports stadium.

Details are sketchy (they always are with the Dome) but it seems an indoor 20,000 arena is in prospect, with bidders Meridian Delta also set to build houses in the surrounding area.

Given the enormous size of the Dome, a 20,000 capacity would appear to offer plenty of space for other facilities to take their place, though any chance of a theme park element now appear to be receding.

Meridian Delta's sports stadium bid is not thought to be linked to an earlier call to turn the Dome into the home of Premiership football club Charlton, whose current Valley home is well under the average in terms of capacity for top flight football teams.
