- West to kick off autumn season on the South Bank
TIMOTHY WEST stars in Luther at the National Theatre from October 5. West follows his recent role in the film 102 Dalmatians with a part in this gritty expose of German theologian Martin Luther's Protestant Reformation.
Luther is the brainchild of John Osborne, the dramatist most famous for Look Back in Anger. The play follows Mark 'Shopping and F**ing' Ravenhill' s latest controversial drama, Mother Clap's Molly House, and precedes both Lee 'Billy Elliot' Hall's adaptation of The Good Hope and a risky new piece linking scenes penned by the likes of Hanif Kureshi, Patrick Marber and Zinnie Harris.
The National Theatre's impressive Autumn line-up secures director Trevor Nunn's reputation for attracting top-notch actors and playwrights. With rivals The Royal Shakespeare Company planning to desert their London base, the National Theatre's audience pulling-power looks set to soar to West End heights.
