| NHS Goes Shopping for Private Hospitals
- Heart Hospital deal could be the first of many MORE private hospitas could be bailed out by the government following today's news that the formerly private Heart Hospital near Harley Street is to be rescued with public funds totalling UKP27 million. "It is something we will look at. We won't rule it out," said a National Health Service spokesperson on the prospect of adding more private facilities to the NHS roster. It is believed the Heart Hospital - a small, luxury hospital with four operating thatres and 95 beds - ran into financial trouble before today's deal which will eventualy see its staff adopt NHS wage rates. The Heart Hospital will now become part of the University College Hospital Trust, whose existing heart facilities will be phased out to allow an increase in other types of operations, thought to include those in the orthopaedic an urology departments. |
