Queen Still 'Fond' of Sophie
- Old Dear not worried by off-record jibes

THE QUEEN has come out in support of Sophie Wessex, despite-her-daughter in law calling Her Majesty the "Old Lady" and "Old Dear."

"The Queen is certainly not angry with Sophie," a Royal aide said. "She is very fond of her and is very sympathetic."

Sophie, married to the Queen's youngest son, Edward, made her rash comments to a contact she believed was a millionaire Arab ready to plough thousands of pounds into her PR company. Instead, the man she met at London's plummy Dorchester hotel was an undercover journalist.

Other comments made by the Countess of Wessex include calling Prime Minister Tony Blair "too presidential"; reacting in horror to Blair's wife Cherie - "horrid, absolutely horrid, horrid"; and labelling opposition leader William Hague "deformed."

Of more concern to the Queen might be Wessex's inside information that Prince Charles is to marry Camilla Parker-Bowles, but only once the Old Lady has passed away.
