Billy Elliot Mines Rich Vein of Stars
- Big A-list turn out for West End premiere

TOP British actors turned out in force last night at the West End premiere of Billy Elliot - hailed by some as one of the best British films ever.

As well as cast members 14-year old Jamie Bell and Julie Walters and director Steven Daldry, a whole host of British stars including Alan Rickman, Jonny Lee Miller, High Grant and Kathy Burke gathered at the Empire cinema in Leicester Square.

Billy Elliot, a heart-warming tale, set during the miner's strike, of a schoolboy who trades in his boxing gloves for ballet shoes, has been showered with praise from critics both at home and in the US. The film, the debut of former Royal Court Theatre director Daldry, looks set to send him in the footsteps of Donmar boss Sam Mendes who landed Hollywood success with the Oscar-winning American Beauty.
