Mayor in Traffic Jam
- GLA members question fast track approach to road-pricing

KEN LIVINGSTONE is under pressure to abandon his plans for congestion-charging in the wake of the anti-fuel tax protests.

The London Mayor is keen to bring in road pricing within the next two years, charging cars UKP5 and commercial traffic UKP15 to enter central London. Today Livingstone explains his scheme to members of the Greater London Authority, many of whom either oppose road pricing outright or want the Mayor to postpone its implementation.

Lurking in the minds of many members is the fear that hauliers will reprise their road-blocking tactics, used so effectively over fuel tax, when it comes to road-charging and bring chaos to London.

A final decision on road-pricing is not expected until next year.
